portfolio

Exams are definately the most stressful things during my time at college. I have study guides, papers, exams, portfolios etc all due. I have like the past 2 weeks at the library. But this portfolio for english has been the most stressful thing. I don't know if I am making it more stressful than what it turns out to be. I have been working on my ethnography and my research paper for like the past week and i have no clue if its right or not. I just hope that i can put everything in this portfolio that needs to go in it, and turn out with a decent grade. I can not wait to like just be back home and not stress about exams and papers. And just relax on the beach with my friends for 4 months!

coming to an end

Well the semester is coming to an end. And i could not be more excited! I finished my last two hours of volunteer work last monday, and let me tell you, it was the best feeling ever. I could have not been any more happier to know that i actually went through with volunteering. Now its just a little overwhelming with the finishing of my portfolio. My group and I have been procrastinating alot the past couple of weeks. But were planning on meeting a numerous amount of times this week to do some of the following thing to complete all of our projects.

research

The many activities that we have been doing in class have been helping out alot. I have gotten all my sources except for my book resources. I have not gotten a chance to go to the library. Living off campus makes it a little bit difficult to walk or catch the bus to the library. But i plan on it sometime this week to go and get my book sources. I have gotten all the other sources with out a major problem. I just hope that I am able to get every bit of information i need to be able to write my papers and have a good portfolio at the end.

family vacation

Back in the summer of 2005 my family and I took a two week trip to New York. The first week we stayed at a condominium that we got in our timeshare. And i knew from driving 45 minutes up a mountain that this condo was far from civilization. The city was not your typical place either it was going to be a long boring week. We road on a old train that took us around the mountain. It was a pretty view. My brother and dad went fishing alot. Mom and I just stayed back and rested and relaxed. We watched alot of movies as well. A week went by very slowly. Finally we where ready to leave to go to my aunt and uncles house. We arrived and it was good to see them, because it had been a couple of years since our last visit. We basically went out to the biggest mall I have ever been in. We also took a trip to Niagara Falls which was the high light of my week. We got to the border of the states and Canada, and it was so time consuming with checking IDs and stuff. But after a hour we finally got through to Canada. My family and I got to ride on the boat that takes you right up to the bottom of the falls. It was very wet and a rush to be under tons of water just coming down. We went to the Hershey chocolate store where I bought like everything you could think of thats chocolate. That weekend we went to my cousins wedding. I love getting all dressed up! The reception and food was delicious. I was so ecstatic after the wedding to leave and go back home!

first day

Well spring break is over unfortunately. And coming back to a normal schedule of college classes was overwhelming. But yesterday, which was a Monday, we got to start our first official day of our service learning project. We have to do a total of 2 hours every time we come to volunteer. It felt like the longest 2 hours of my life. We got assigned to clean dog cages. We had to spray some kind of chemical soap and then scrub them down with a brush then spray with water. After we got started it was not so bad, it did take up the most of the 2 hours. The people are really nice and polite, and put us to work on the spot. And we finally are getting to work and actually start our project. For the past 3 times we have been there, they have either had to many people already or they forgot to mention that we had to work a minimum of 2 hours. So to finally be able to accomplish one day and get 2 hours out of the 12 hours we are vounteering was an awesome feeling. I am looking forward to next Monday to see what they will have in store for us to do.

Race, Power, and Privilege

In my opinion, race is not an excuse for power and privilege. If a person is well qualified for a certain spot in a job, they should not be judged on skin color or skill. With Barak Obama running for election is a huge step towards the African American culture. Because if you look back there has never been a African American running for president of the U.S.A. Even with Hilary Clinton being the first women to run is amazing. Back in the day African Americans had the lease opportunities in the work world, because they were looked down on skill and ability. White people had the jobs of being the doctors, lawyers, jockeys, and teachers. It is just unbelievably to think that just because of color they were judged with their abilities without even given a chance. But i am glad to be living in a era where there are giving all sorts of races the same privileges to live the life that everybody should.

M&M reflection

Today in class we did an activity on privileges that we have earned or unearned. We made a list on the bored from all around the room and discussed each topic as a class. Some privileges that some of my partners discussed about was the privilege of being an American and having a well financial life that they did not have to earn. Some privileges that people had to earn was the good grades in school and having the ability to come to colleges from all around on scholarships. As i looked around the room when we did the activity with the M&Ms it looked like everyone had the same amount of candy on their papers as me. I was not really surprised about the results of the outcome with this activity, just because alot of people have grown up in different cultures around the state. And everyone is not the same, and does not live the same life as others. Just by allowing people of all sorts of cultures come and help around the places.
